A Virginia Home with a Warm Country Feeling
The owner of this lovely Virginia home was looking for a true farmhouse kitchen since she loves antiques and anything with a story. The designers at Kitchen Krafters, Inc. of Fredericksburg VA made that dream come true.
Painted maple cabinets in style 650S feature glass inserts that remind me of antique hutches filled with pretty and practical dishes. The stainless steel farm sink gives an updated country look. The oiled bronze light fixtures over the island look like something you might find at the Brimfield Flea Market…or one in your area.
The contrasting island in Maple Mocha Glaze looks like a piece that was added later and that just enhances the farmhouse feeling where things were added over the years and as needed. The grooved paneling and shapely turned legs make it appear like an antique furniture piece itself. The countertop on the island is the perfect choice for a country kitchen too. It’s soapstone, a material that has been used in kitchens for years. Even the stools add to the overall feeling; their saddle seat style in a dark stain contrast nicely with the island paneling. Farmhouses have always had an interesting assortment of finishes and and what we have here is a sophisticated grouping of textures that define this special space.
There’s a bit of a country French feel in this room too. And it’s mostly because of the accessories. The luxurious vase of sunflowers and checked window treatment give that touch of the European countryside too.
