WE MAKE DESIGNING UNIQUE FURNITURE A PIECE OF CAKE
Traditional Timeless Beauty China Hutch in 410 Maple Espresso
Did you know that you can create custom furniture pieces from Waypoint® Cabinets? Actually, it’s a piece of cake! And it’s an amazing way to continue or even complement the cabinets you have in your kitchen or other living spaces. In this article, I’ll share a china cabinet that I designed as a focal point for a kitchen, which also happens to provide an incredible amount of extra storage.
Here’s the “break-down” of the cabinets and other accessories I used.
TOP MOLDING—THE SECRET IS OUR MOLDING BUILDUPS
We have a large selection of molding buildups predesigned to fit any style, or you and or your designer can get creative make up your own! For this design I used the Waypoint® Extra Large Crown Molding 300, and added Ogee Pilaster and Single Bead Insert molding for more detail.
GROOVED PANELING—FOR TEXTURE
I added Grooved Paneling to the inside of the open-frame wall cabinets to add texture and keep it interesting. Remember, beauty is in the details!
WALL CABINETS—DEFINITELY NOT A WALL FLOWER
Think cabinets are just a row of boxes with a door? Think again! I took advantage of this opportunity to mix things up with different size cabinets. This design has classic symmetry, but you can create added interest by varying which size cabinets are used on top and bottom. Plus, I incorporated slightly shallower cabinets to the sides and deeper cabinets in the middle for even more visual impact.
CLEAR GLASS INSERT—DON’T HIDE IT, SHOW IT OFF
I opted for our Clear Glass inserts to make this piece a real show-off. You can use it to display your heirloom china, special serving pieces or your favorite collections.
BASE CABINETS—BECAUSE YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH STORAGE
I used our Wall Top Hinge cabinets for the base of this china hutch, but I turned them upside down! Now, instead of pulling up, the door drops down for easy access to tons of storage possibilities in these very versatile cabinets. Remember, think outside of the box!
KNOBS AND PULLS—IT’S COOL TO MX AND MATCH FINISHES
I used brass cup pulls on the bottom row of solid cabinets to make the hardware pop. Then I used our dark Suffolk pulls on the Clear Glass insert cabinet doors on top to let them blend into the design. Get creative with the hardware, you can mix and match finishes and styles to make some pop and some blend. Think of it as jewelry for your cabinets.
DECORATIVE LEGS—IT NEVER HURTS TO SHOW A LITTLE LEG
To really make this hutch stand up and stand out, I used the Chantilly furniture legs from our Decorative Accessories collection. They really make the hutch look like a piece of custom-made furniture.
