I am feeling so inspired by the “pop of color” trend and how simple it is to incorporate, or better yet change out with the seasons, your mood, or even your outfit. Today I would like to focus in on this dynamic living space and the pop of green that leads your eye around the room. But, first those cabinets! Hands clap! They look so amazing in this living space; we have to talk about them just a little. The cabinet door style is our chic and modern slab, 530, in Maple Espresso. Let’s start with that TV credenza! Drawers, drawers and more drawers—the best storage option; plus it’s so on-trend with the custom furniture look– just stunning. I also love the contrast of the dark Espresso cabinet finish with the satin nickel hardware! The symmetrical bookcase area will be your favorite place to accessorize and show off special-moment photos or must-have reads. It also does double duty as open media storage. The bookcases create a perfect opportunity for a stylish little alcove—check out the area between the two bookcase units. The geometric wallpaper adds tons of personality and is the prefect backdrop for the floating glass shelves. To save space and allow the room to feel open and airy, floating wall cabinets were added to the left of the credenza to complete the cohesive look. Think dark cabinetry, high contrast hardware, and sleek details for the door style and moldings when creating this look.
These dark cabinets are a fantastic contrast to the light gray walls, birch furniture and other furnishings. But we’ll talk furnishing details in a minute. First let’s discuss where to start for your own living space redesign.
So you’re ready to begin that living room makeover? Ok, let’s break it down. An important point to consider before you begin your project is: YOUR LIFESTYLE. Your living space must function for you and also be a reflection of your own personal style. Start by thinking about how you will use the space. Think about seating—how many will you need to fit comfortably? Consider pieces that you currently own that are a must in your newly remodeled space. Where will you place emphasis as your focal point of the living space? Consider playing off architectural elements already in the space and the natural flow of foot traffic through the room. Some important lounge area dimensions to consider can be found in one of our previous articles here.
We all know that style is as important as function. Are you considering stepping outside of the box and trying something new? Are you inspired by so many different looks that you feel like you need some direction? Why not take a minute right now to take our Waypoint Living Spaces® Style Quiz? It’s fun, quick and surprisingly accurate!
COLOR OF THE YEAR
For this room design, I used Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year, Greenery, as my inspiration. The style I chose is Sleek & Chic, which is our take on the modern trend with geometric lines, monochromatic color palettes, and with, you guessed it, pops of color!
Green is the color of nature and serenity—it’s the most restful color for the human eye. It pairs amazingly well with our monochromatic palette of white and gray. To keep the design interesting, I’ve added in a few simple birch wood pieces, which balance the palette with a little warmth. For more inspiration using Greenery, check out our previous article “Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year and You”.
