When you think of living in luxe style, you think of perfection. I feel all that and more when I walk into this living space. French-styled furniture blends perfectly with Waypoint’s mitered 740 door style, which certainly highlights the homeowner’s love of symmetry and rich, ornate details. So pretty!!
Now, let’s take a look at one of our new drool-worthy painted finishes!
Painted Harbor—“This refined, cool grey, created in a lighter painted finish, serves as the perfect backdrop for many different looks and styles. Its neutral tone lets designers work with accents of color or create a refined monochromatic feel.” —Waypoint Living Spaces Magazine
CREATING THE MOOD BOARD
Playing off the open-concept kitchen, I pulled together the elements shown below to create the mood board for the living room, then began designing the space. As I was pulling together inspirational elements, I kept going back to soft, feminine touches. I love the look of curved lines, ornate details and glass cabinetry to highlight gorgeous accessories. This takes me away to thoughts of a special place to decompress with a cup of tea and a good book. My goal was to design a multipurpose space that’s a cozy place to relax, as well as a beautiful setting for entertaining. And of course, I always like to add a few organic touches to create a sense of stability by bringing the outdoors in.
NEUTRAL PALETTE SUGGESTS LUXURY
Super delicate, and pretty, this limited color palette creates a sense of calm and unifies the décor. Surprisingly chic, the beautiful touches of grey pair effortlessly with the gold accents. The jute rug and soft seating add texture, while the accessories give your eyes plenty to see. Without a doubt, this neutral palette and décor suggest one main design point—luxury.
TURN ON THE DRAMA
Lighting is your chance to really make a statement. Drama isn’t something you ease into, you just have to go for it! You can add a ton of personality by choosing a light fixture with mixed materials and an interesting, sculptural shape. I definitely suggest oversizing the light fixture in a space to ensure you get the greatest impact. Check out the drama created by this polished, stained nickel, crystal chandelier. Also, did you notice how the mirror magnifies the effect? I love it when a plan comes together!
SYMMETRICAL DESIGN EQUALS STABILITY
The key to creating a well-designed living space, that looks upscale and professionally-styled, is symmetry. A symmetrical design adds elegance and a sense of balance and stability. Another simple design trick is to use mirrors to expand the space and bounce light around the room.
CREATE A FOCAL POINT
The fireplace wall is a natural focal point in this open-concept space. I designed the furniture hutch pieces to support the main focal point and anchor the room. The furniture pieces add that luxurious feel without overpowering the space.
CABINETRY IS FURNITURE
My secret obsession, hands down, is finding the opportunity to incorporate Waypoint® cabinetry into unconventional living spaces. I absolutely adore a kitchen or bath design challenge, which gives me an opportunity to use cabinetry to bring functionality to other living spaces. This is definitely, no doubt, my M.O.
I have to admit, I swooned a bit over this cabinetry! I designed the beautiful hutch pieces to complement the kitchen cabinetry in this open-concept space. Think about unifying a multipurpose living space by relating the cabinetry in the different areas. I think it’s uber-important to consider all details.
In the end, your home should always feel like a reflection of your personal style. The décor should feel like you and make you happy. Check out our Style Quiz to find out more about your own personal, unique style.
