LIFE ABOVE THE RIM

Growing up, I wanted to be a professional basketball player. My father would lift me up almost to the rim so that I could shoot my wonderfully worn, brown leather ball into the basket. I felt then like I could conquer the world. Today, as I sit in my kitchen surrounded by my beautiful children and the morning sun shines on my toasted almond-brown colored cabinets, it reminds me of that old worn ball, and, although I never made a career out of basketball, I look around and smile because I was able to conquer the world.
