When it comes to Thanksgiving, we all strive for the perfect blend of family, food and wine. While we can’t help you with your guest list, we can ensure sipping in style is easy. With so many tastes on the table, Thanksgiving dinner pairings can be daunting. Waypoint has compiled some tried and true pairings that will complement a variety of different dishes. Remember, it’s impossible to ruin a good dinner if you select wines you love so let us guide you to a fruitful selection!
Greet your guests with a savory autumnal charcuterie. Earthy red wines are a natural flavor mix for the medially of charcuterie platter flavors.
Good news, you can’t go wrong pairing wine with turkey. If it’s white wine you prefer, bring out the best in turkey with the crisp acidity, mineral undertones and fruit-forward Chardonnay. For red drinkers, the soft tannins of a Pinot Noir won’t overpower the food making it an excellent option.
Cutting through the rich ham flavor, Pinot Noir, a light-bodied red, provides the perfect pair.
Mashed Potatoes + White Burgundy
Buttery, creamy mashed potatoes are well-paired with a white Burgundy to cut through the richness.
The savory qualities of a Pinot Noir also compliment everyone’s favorite—stuffing.
Cranberry + Riesling
The tangy sweetness of a Riesling offers a nice compliment for cranberry lovers.
Don’t forget dessert! When selecting a dessert wine, avoid wine that is as sweet or sweeter than your dessert. Pie and port always go well together. A late-harvest Riesling also offers a balance to the sweetness of pumpkin and pecan pie.
Cornbread + Chardonnay
A toasty California Chardonnay, with notes of melon, goes well with buttery sweet cornbread.
Expert tip: Serve white wines between 43-52 degrees and red between 54-65 degrees.
